Considering taking the 10,000 Steps Challenge Walk on Saturday June 6th?

Registration is free. It just involves signing in and picking up a passport (which includes a map of the entire route) either at Station #1 at the Plant Recreation Centre , Somerset and Preston Streets, or at any other station which might provide a more convenient starting point for some walkers (check the route map elsewhere on this site for the station nearest you).

Between 9:30 and 11:30 am a route through historic Hintonbug and Dalhousie (including Little Italy and ChinaTown) with 12 stations along the route will be set up. The length of the route will highlight the number of steps people are advised to walk everyday for healthy hearts. The route along sidewalks and the O-Train Pathway is baby stroller friendly, and can be shortened to accommodate individual needs.

At each station along the route walkers can a) get their passport stamped; b) check the directions to the next station; c) learn more about the organization volunteering to run the station.

When walkers have completed their walk they are invited to finish at the Plant Recreation Centre and present their passport for free food and door prizes.

There will also be other free events ongoing at Plant Recreation Centre during the day. A Basketball Hoops Competition will take place at the court from 11 am to 3 pm with age groups from 10 years and up. Free demonstrations by Centre staff and a free swim round out a day of celebrations for National Health and Fitness Day. Show your support for active lifestyles for health by joining our celebration on Saturday June 6th.
