“Hoops” is a Free basketball tournament.  “Hoops” is one of our annual free events.  It takes place on National Health and Fitness Day in conjunction with our Ten Thousand steps event.  There are snacks and prizes for teams in each category.  Get a team together or just come by to watch the excitement and cheer on the teams!  This event takes place on the courts at the Plant Recreation Centre 930 Somerset Street West the first Saturday in June annually.

It is less than four weeks away! The Ten Thousand Steps Challenge and the Hoops Basket Ball Tournament.

Yes it is the same day as “Doors Open Ottawa” but that dose not mean you can’t do both.  This year our event is special, bigger and better as we celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday, by combining recreation and history at our communities almost 100 year old facility and throughout the Downtown historic neighbourhoods that surround it.

The PPRA is seeking resumes for a Drop-in Support Coordinator position

Plant Pool Recreation Association (PPRA) is a non-profit, community-based organization focused on improving the community by increasing access to recreation opportunities and spaces in the Plant Recreation Centre and Plouffe park area (located at Somerset and Preston Streets in Ottawa).  The PPRA offers a drop-in, free program for children in Plouffe Park which includes sports, games, and arts & crafts.  We are looking to hire one more Camp Counselor for this program operating from July 3, 2017 and August 25, 2017 from noon to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Job Summary 

The Drop-in Support Coordinator position will be responsible for supporting the Drop-in Coordinator in delivering a program to encourage youth to become active and enjoy sports at Plouffe Park. The program is designed to help participants to organize and manage their own games, in order to help them practice skills in good sportsmanship and citizenship at the same time as improving their physical health.

Key Duties:

– supervise a group of youth from ages 10+

– encourage youth to organize and manage their own games of their own choice

– ensures a fun, safe environment for everyone

– sets a good example for youth by being conscientious and supportive of the program mandate

– builds relationships with youth and be aware of individual issues and needs

– participates in planning special events/activities for youth

– assists other staff in supervising and organizing activities for youth including the afternoon swim

– keeps statistics and provides ongoing feedback to the Drop-In Coordinator and Plant Pool Recreation Association Board.

 

Qualifications:


– age 18 or older by start of camp

–  experience playing sports

– great with youth

– good communication skills

– team-oriented

– energetic and enthusiastic

– motivational, creative

– problem solving skill


 

Hours:            25 hrs/week, Monday to Friday

Wage:             Scale from $15 to $18 an hour depending on experience

In honour of Canada`s 150th Birthday, the PPRA and the Parkdale Orchestra would like to invite you to a concert to be performed by Parkdale Orchestra at the Plant Recreation Centre

On Friday, April 21, the Parkdale Orchestra, a community orchestra composed of 60 plus musicians, will perform at the Plant Recreation Centre, under the leadership of Angus Armstrong. “A Canadian Celebration” will feature the works of several Canadian 20th and 21st century composers ranging from Dolores Claman’s iconic “Hockey Night in Canada”, to the Works of the internationally recognized composer Malcolm Forsythe.   Concert at 7:30 Doors open at 6:30pm.  Admission will be set at a low fee of $5 or by donation.  Refreshments, including alcohol and non-alcohol beverages and light snacks will be available for sale.  Thank you to Bridgehead and Macarons-et-Madeleines  for their generous donations to this event.

Due to the warm weather the Rink is closed until the temperature drops to sub zero.  Please stay off the ice.  Thank You!  Have a great Family Day.  Why not go for a swim in the pool instead.
