The 10,000 Steps is a walking route through the historic neighbourhoods of Little Italy, Chinatown, and Hintonburg. It is designed to highlight the amount of steps which the Heart and Stroke Foundation recommends individuals should take each day to maintain healthy hearts. It takes place on National Health and Fitness Day to highlight walking as a low impact, low cost, pleasurable way to maintain personal health and fitness for all ages. Also, it is designed to highlight the exciting and historic nature of the neighbourhoods surrounding the Plant Recreation Centre. The 10,000 Steps results in approximately 61/2 km and depending on walking speed and activities undertaken along the route should be completed within an hour. The route is open between 9:30 and 11:30 with route maps and scavenger hunt questionnaires available at registration at the Plant Recreation Centre with snacks and prizes for walkers.
