Plant Pool Recreation Association (PPRA) operates free, drop-in activities for youth in Plouffe Park located behind the Plant Recreation Centre at 930 Somerset Street West. These activities include swimming, sports, games and arts. PPRA is hiring Park Animators for a six week program in the summer of 2024 from 11am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Job Summary
Park Animators work in Plouffe Park to encourage youth to participate in sports, games, arts along with a daily swim in the Plant Pool. They encourage youth to develop leadership skills and practise good sportsmanship at the same time as improving their physical health.
Key Duties:
- supervise and plan activities/special events for youth;
- encourage youth to organise and manage their own activities;
- ensure a fun, safe environment for everyone;
- set a good example for youth by being conscientious and supportive of the program mandate;
- build relationships with youth and be aware of individual issues and needs;
- keep all equipment in good order, accounted for and report any problems with equipment;
- activate first aid/emergency procedures with the PRC Staff as needed;
- keep statistics and provide ongoing feedback to the PPRA;
- liaise with the PRC staff to ensure the compatible and safe use of the park, and
- responsible to inform parents and/or guardians about the program and any issues.
Qualifications:
- minimum of 2 years experience playing sports and working with youth;
- experience in supervising staff;
- good communication skills;
- energetic and enthusiastic;
- motivational, creative;
- problem solving skills, and
- Knowledge of First Aid/CPR an asset.
Hours: 30 hrs/week, Monday to Friday
Wage: Scale from $18 to $21 an hour depending on experience
